Resurfacing could be a better option than replacement for active individuals with arthritis of the hip. According to a study published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine, 82 percent of hip resurfacing patients felt no restriction while participating in sports after their surgery. "If youre in good health, have good bone density, and lead an active lifestyle, hip resurfacing has many advantages over hip replacement for relieving pain and improving function," says Peter Brooks, MD, a staff physician in the department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Cleveland Clinic.
