If youve been diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder-rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, or Reiters syndrome, for example-youd be wise to visit an ophthalmologist for a thorough eye examination. These and other arthritic conditions are closely associated with the emergence of several eye disorders. "If these disorders are promptly treated, they are usually manageable," says Careen Lowder, MD, an ophthalmologist at Cleveland Clinic. "But if left untreated, they can result in substantial vision loss, even blindness."
