Sleep hygiene sounds like it might be washing hands before bed, but it is really just good sleep habits, including simple practices to promote and protect restful sleep. Sunjeet Kaur, MD, Cleveland Clinic sleep medicine physician, says “Sleep hygiene is very important and definitely affects a person’s nighttime sleep. We cannot overstress that.” (See box.)
