Shoulder dislocation occurs when the humerus, the ball portion of the bone of the upper arm, comes out of the socket, which is called the glenoid. It is the most commonly dislocated joint and can happen at any age. Shoulder dislocation is typically due to trauma like a fall, car crash or sports injury in which the arm gets caught, because it requires force to knock the bone out of its joint.
