Vitamin D is essential for bone health, and the primary source of this vitamin comes from exposure to the sun. But in the winter months, with fewer daylight hours and lower temperatures, it may be challenging to get the 15 to 20 minutes of sun exposure a day needed for an adequate supply of vitamin D. This is especially true in the northern latitudes.
