Q: I have a question about food and arthritis. I’ve heard we should avoid all carbohydrates except the ones from vegetables and fruit. Is that true?

A: There is no shortage of diet advice, including recommendations about carbohydrates, which can be confusing. But there is a relatively simple way to think about this. According to Roxanne B. Sukol, MD, MS, in the Department of Preventive Medicine at Cleveland Clinic’s Wellness Institute, you want to increase the amount of real food you eat and decrease your consumption of manufactured calories.
