More people are undergoing knee replacement surgery, yet research suggests that about 15-20 percent of them arent completely happy with their new knees. To improve patient satisfaction, scientists have developed new approaches to knee replacement, from gender-specific implants and instrumentation tailored for each patient, to computer-assisted surgery. Experts hope these newer technologies will mean a better operation and more durable knee replacement. But the jurys still out as to whether thats the case, and these new techniques may not be for everybody, a Cleveland Clinic surgeon cautions.
