Pain and deformity in the hands commonly result from osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. But other conditions also affect the hands. For example, if you develop thick nodules in the palm of your hand and a finger starts to curl and cant be straightened, you likely have a condition called Dupuytrens contracture.
