Finding effective means of relieving the pain of arthritis can be challenging. Pain medications like acetaminophen (Tylenol) and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) work for many people, but they have limitations. Taken long term NSAIDs may cause stomach upset and they are linked to increased risk for heart disease. If medications, physical therapy and other more conservative measures dont adequately relieve pain, knee replacement surgery can ease pain whether you have osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.
