Drugs in the category called biologics are used to treat a variety of diseases, including inflammatory forms of arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. They may be prescribed for these conditions when a person no longer gets adequate symptom relief from another disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD), such as methotrexate.
